We learn Nintendo’s console passed the whole regional lifetime earnings in Japan of its predecessor, the Wii U. Today’s tally (that will be around December 31st) sees the Switch having sold a grand total of 3,312,619 units on the market, while the Wii U has sold 3,329,127 units for customers. Considering that we’re already more than a week beyond it’s totally safe to presume that the Wii U was overtaken.

It’s’s worth mentioning that Famitsu indicated the overtake with the prior week’s amounts, but Media Promotion is generally considered more reliable than the favorite magazine, and often used by Nintendo itself for its official communicating.

Considering it can’t have obtained more than a day or two for its Switch to have sold over 17,000 extra units in the current rate (and New Year is an extremely active sales span in Japan, on account of the Otoshidama money gifting tradition in families), The Switch likely overtook the Wii U pretty much precisely on its own ten month anniversary on the shelves, that was on January 2nd.

This is remarkable considering that the Wii U has been available for more than decades.

More great news for Nintendo is that the Switch’s games completely dominated the Christmas week, just as the console dominated the earlier part of this Holiday Shopping season. This is almost definitely going to extend to the very first week of January.

On Sony’s leading, while the PlayStation 4 didn’t pull stellar amounts throughout the Western Holiday time, it’s worth mentioning that the PS4 Guru has seen a rather nice buff to its earnings, selling about 25% of the PS4 family’s components, indicating that many Japanese gamers could be preparing for its forthcoming launch of Monster Hunter World.

If you would like to compare, then you can check out last week’s outcomes.
