Back in Japan, New Year is the true holidayseason, with Christmas being a convention embraced from the west.

Especially entertainment markets receive a large boost due to the tradition called “Otoshidama,”  that prompts parents to present money to their children on New Year’daily. This also sees a limited expansion in other areas of Japanese culture and results to a large influx of cold hard money prepared to be invested into fun.

Being the new kid on the block the Switch unquestionably benefited the most from all of the spending, with the other 146,000 units that found a loving Japanese house. This officially brings the console over 3.5 million units sold in the country (3,566,794 to be precise), officially passing the lifetime sales of the Wii U.

Speaking of this Wii U, Media Create has officially stopped tracking it, and the exact same is true for PS3.

The PS4 also has a large boost, demonstrating by far the greatest revenue of the Holiday season, and basically doubling the result of the Christmas week with   91,683 units sold between the foundation and Pro models combined. This actually shows an improvement year-on-year, and places Sony’s console only shy of six thousand units sold in Japan through its life.

On the front, the Switch will be securely on top, with those purchasing a new console racing additionally to buy Nintendo’s staple names. With no new releases in this week, the top of the ranking is basically identical to this one before, with the sole relevant change being Splatoon 2 overtaking Super Mario Odyssey and conquering the first location. Together with the 2 games being frequently neck and neck, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Mario will probably manage to conquer the third-person-shooter as the best selling Switch game.
