World War I is an interesting and intriguing period of history ripe for mining from mediums that are creative. Unfortunately, just a couple games such as Valiant Hearts: The Great War and Battlefield 1 are put during this time period to varying results. Now, Bandai Namco Entertainment announced 11-11: Memories Retold, a story-driven name set in World War I, they’re making with developer DigixArt and famous animation studio Aardman.
Meanwhile Aardman is a British animation studio that is famous for their stop-motion animation, and are best know for their Wallace & Gromit shorts and movies. Dave Sproxton, Creator of Aardman had the following to say about working with 11-11 Memories Retold:
“Engaging audiences with compelling tales through animation is in the center of what we are attempting to perform at Aardman. With this project we would like to make an experience with visual character to help you know what war is about. ”
In terms of the game in question, 11-11: Memories Retold is set to be a narrative driven adventure game that blends narration, a beautiful painting-inspired artstyle, and potent music to tell an emotional World War I story. While precise details on the storyline are currently rare, DigixArt Game Director Yoan Fanise had the following to say about the game:
From the style to the journey we create to the player to rekindle their heritage, we’re pushing the bounds of what a game could be and hope it will make a mark. ”
