Seems as if we won’t be in a position to play Shenmue III at 2018, perhaps not surprisingly. Now publisher Deep Silver and developer Ys Net made an statement to confirm that the anticipated 2018 launch window is not any longer.
Deep Silver said that the game will get further polish to the “high standards it warrants” plus a much better launch timeframe.
“Deep Silver today announced their forthcoming release Shenmue III was moved and will now release in 2019.
The excess time is going to be used to enhance the quality of the game even farther, into the standards it warrants and release the item in the finest possible span. “
“To all of our backers, we’re very sorry for the delay. After much debate with our spouses, Deep Silver, we’ve concluded that stretching the release will enable us to send Shenmue III at its best. We guarantee to utilize this opportunity to improve the standard of Shenmue III.
We cannot thank you enough for your enduring support. ”
This is the next time the game is delayed, after the first slip announced in June 2018, almost exactly one year ago.
To be fair, the tidbit about the “best potential timeframe” for launch may also be telling. This year we’re getting Shenmue I & II out of Sega, also it might make little sense for a small developer like Ys Web to launch the third chapter of the series before the younger generations have a chance to have a look at the two.
Incidentally, for the sake of full disclosure, the author of this article is among those first Kickstarter backers of this game.
