Microsoft’s Goals for Xbox Adaptive Controller Were to Make it “Affordable,” “Extensible,” and “Easy to Use”

While accessibility has frequently been a struggle for both game developers and hardware makers alike, Microsoft has taken a step forward in providing gamers with disabilities a wider field of choices to play games with all the Xbox One Adaptive Controller, and much more information have been shared on the particular goals the organization sought when producing the device.

In a report from   Engadget, Senior Xbox Hardware Program Manager Gabi Michel shared a little more insight into the creation of the Xbox Adaptive Controller, the firm’s forthcoming new control that offers an accessibility-minded controller alternative for gamers with physical or psychological disabilities and/or limited mobility.

Especially, Michel stated that Microsoft sought out to make an accessible controller as an alternative to the current market for similar devices, as accessible controllers can be “quite expensive” and price thousands of dollars, based on her. Michel elaborated that most accessible controllers are custom made and that “you usually have to attend a non-profit to receive them and people often have waiting lists,” alongside being difficult to create on a technical level and hard to find for most consumers.

Michel reported that Microsoft’s chief purpose when producing the Flexible Controller was that they “wanted to solve all those issues” in supplying available hardware to gamers with particular physical or psychological demands, and added that “we needed it to be economical, we wanted it to be more adaptive. It needed to be easy to find, it needed to be user friendly, set up, play, all. ”
